Compare Unified Communications Products – CommsTrader Review 2017

Navigating UC vendors in the UK

As you start to compare unified communications (UC) platforms for your business, it’s worth noting the market each vendor is targeting their platform at and which segment you belong to.

For example a vendor targeting the enterprise market may offer features and functionality that you’d expect in large corporations, on the flip side a vendor targeting small businesses may be lower cost and may have less features and capabilities.

Market Segments

  • Micro Business = 1-10 users
  • SMB (small to medium size business) = 11-250 users
  • Mid-Market = 250 to 1000 users
  • Enterprise = 1000+ users

Some vendors (especially the ‘pure play’ cloud vendors) offer a single platform for all market segments. For example RingCentral and 8×8 only offer a UCaaS platform and your business can be anything from one to thousands of users.

Unified Communications Platforms in the UK

Here’s a list of Unified Communications products available in the UK.

Bear in mind that all these fall under the banner of Unified Communications which means they offer more than just Voice. Other unified apps include video, messaging and team collaboration which many of these systems offer.

Deployment models (where you host your system) vary and many vendors offer lots of choice however some don’t. Therefore moving from one type to another could be a challenge if you select the vendor that doesn’t offer the path you wish to adopt. For example, Ring Central is a pure cloud platform and doesn’t offer an ‘on-premises’ hardware based solution, the NEC SL1100 is a small PBX which offers no path to the cloud (rip and replace). Mitel on the other-hand supports virtually all deployment models, therefore really flexible and will meet your business requirements no matter which path you choose.

(alphabetical order, the reviews without links are not published yet however will be very soon)

‘On-Premises’ Hardware based UC Platforms

These are conventional hardware based UC systems that are typically hosted in your office, hence the term ‘on-premises’. Some systems in this list are also available in other deployment model categories.
